I have rented a new studio space in downtown Saint John. I had rented this studio before ( 2002-2004) and was thrilled it became available again recently. It is in a heritage building on Canterbury street that was once owned by by my great-great grandfather. It was passed down as far as my grandfather who sold it in the 19980's. It has hosted many artists over the years and was central to Saint John's art history. Family legend has it that my grandfather, a stern and stingy man, refused to trade paintings for rent from a now famous, dead and widely collected artist, Miller Brittain , whose work now hangs in the National Gallery of Canada.

Here it is all freshly painted and ready for me to move all my art stuff in there.Yay!

My proposal was one of six chosen and one will be selected for further funding. There is going to be a vote on the av.on.ca website to chose the winner starting November 7. If you are a Canadian resident, you can vote! So please visit avon.ca and cast your vote!!

I have been lurking about  Livejournal in recent weeks because it seems many cartoonist hang out here. I used to do a minicomic called Dollface from 1994-1997. For many years I put it away and forgot all about it. Lately I have felt the interest in comics return from dormancy. Who knows why? I guess I have  been slowly becoming aware that there are lots of interesting things going on in comics again. Perhaps there has been all along but I had other things on my plate. Those things have been scraped into the compost bin of life. Yay, beginners mind!!

I went to TCAF last weekend in Toronto. It was an amazing way to reconnect with the comic scene. It was alot of fun too. I was happy to see my friend Diana, who introduced me to Drawn and Quarterly comics when we were in Montreal as students.

When I was applying to Concordia I applied for both Fine Arts and English literature. I remember I was in the Laundry room of my parents house and Concordia university called. With rackett of the washer and dryer in the background, they informed me I had been accepted to both programs and I had to choose one. It was tough. I chose Fine Arts in the end. When I discovered comics it was as though what had been divided was rejoined.

So if you return here you may see some old comics as I dig through old material and maybe some new!!
Hope you will return.
